// The Book of James

Join us for a confident 25-day, 5-week journey through the book of James. Each week, you’ll spend just 15 minutes a day for five days, diving into each chapter with purpose and reflection. This study is designed to help you memorize a small but powerful portion of Scripture, allowing God’s Word to take root in your heart. As you walk through this study, may you grow in the assurance of seeking God first in all things, responding with faith, strength, and unwavering confidence in Jesus. Week 1

James 1 is a foundational chapter that encourages believers to endure trials with joy, seek God’s wisdom, resist temptation, and be doers of the Word. James emphasizes that faith in Jesus should be lived out through action, demonstrating a genuine relationship with God.

Day 1: Joy in Trials (James 1:1-12)

Focus: Trusting God through trials and persevering in faith.

  • Read: James 1:1-12
  • Key Verse: James 1:2-3 – “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”

Day 2: Temptation and God’s Goodness (James 1:13-18)

Focus: Resisting temptation and recognizing God’s unchanging goodness.

  • Key Verse: James 1:17 – “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

Day 3: Hearing and Doing the Word (James 1:19-25)

Focus: Being active in obedience to God’s Word.

Day 4: A Genuine Walk with God (James 1:26-27)

Focus: Controlling speech and serving others as part of a true relationship with God.

Week 2

James 2 emphasizes that genuine faith in Jesus must be accompanied by actions. The chapter is divided into two main themes: rejecting favoritism and living out faith through works. James rebukes showing partiality to the rich while neglecting the poor and stresses that faith without works is dead. A true relationship with God produces a transformed life, evidenced by love, mercy, and good deeds.

Day 1: No Favoritism in Christ (James 2:1-7)

Focus: Treating all people with love, regardless of status.

  • Read: James 2:1-7
  • Key Verse: James 2:1 – “My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism.”

Day 2: Loving Your Neighbor as Yourself (James 2:8-13)

Week 3

James 3 focuses on the power of the tongue and true wisdom from God. James warns about the dangers of careless words and how speech can either build up or destroy. He then contrasts earthly wisdom, which leads to disorder, with heavenly wisdom, which produces peace and righteousness. A transformed heart will reflect godly wisdom in both words and actions.

Day 1: The Power of the Tongue (James 3:1-6)

Focus: Words have the power to bless or destroy.

  • Read: James 3:1-6
  • Key Verse: James 3:5 – “Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.”

Week 4

James 4 addresses the dangers of worldly desires, pride, and self-sufficiency while calling believers to humility, submission to God, and dependence on His will. James warns that quarrels come from selfish desires, emphasizes the need to draw near to God, and reminds us that boasting about tomorrow is foolish because life is fleeting. A true relationship with God is marked by humility, repentance, and trust in His plans.

Day 1: The Root of Conflict – Selfish Desires (James 4:1-3)

Focus: Worldly desires lead to conflict.

  • Read: James 4:1-3
  • Key Verse: James 4:2 – “You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.”

This chapter teaches us to persevere in faith, trust in God’s justice, and pray with expectancy.

Day 1: Warning to the Rich Who Trust in Wealth (James 5:1-6)

Focus: Wealth without righteousness leads to destruction.
